Currently Coveting: August Must-Haves

Is it already August? We can hardly believe it’s the last full month of summer, although we’re not complaining. There are still plenty of hot summer days (and nights) left to enjoy, plus two more long weekends to use to escape. While we are starting to think about fall (it’s not our fault! pre-fall is everywhere), we do have some suggestions of things you’ll definitely want to do and a few purchases that will take you into the fall and beyond. Enjoy!

Shakespeare in the Park, New York City
A summer tradition that’s celebrating 50 years this summer, New York City’s Shakespeare in the Park is one of the best deals around when it comes to live theatre. Though the season officially started in June, you have until August 25 to catch the current production of Into the Woods, which features some notable actors including Amy Adams and Glenn Close. Tickets are free and can be obtained at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park day of starting at 1 p.m. or online to see the 8 p.m. performance. Note: there is a limit of 2 tickets per person.

Tory Burch Priscilla Top Handle Bag, $577, saksfifthavenue.com.
We can’t help it, we’re suckers for really gorgeous handbags, like this sumptuous leather cross-body bag in a fiery orange, which we can imagine toting to work or while we stroll a museum in Paris. With a detachable (and adjustable) strap, we love the little front clasp and variety of pockets that make it easy to stash our essentials in. A perfect autumn shade, it’s a major must.

Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration at Buckingham Palace
A trip to Buckingham Palace and an exhibition? Why not! On until October 7, 2012, Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration is a spectacular display of diamonds worn by the Queen and other monarchs over the past 200 years, with pieces including The Girls of Great Britain Tiara (pictured), worn frequently by the Queen, Queen Victoria’s Fringe Brooch, and an 18th century bloodstone box with nearly 3,000 diamonds on it. Guests need to purchase A Royal Day Out ticket (£31.95 per adult), which includes the State Rooms, where this collection is held.

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow, $42, benefitcosmetics.com.
Finally available in Canada (it has been a hit in the U.S. since it launched earlier this year), Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow is a lightweight oil-free foundation (well, more like a tinted moisturizer), complete with SPF 25 that is designed to block out both UVA and UVB rays. Available in 9 shades, it not only promises to brighten, but give you a luminous complexion. Sounds good to us.

Dior Crocodile Nail Duo, $29, available at Sephora.
Nail effects are one beauty trend we don’t see disappearing anytime soon. While some we think are best left to the runways, we are fans of this cool crocodile effect from Dior. Super easy to do at home, all you need to do is apply the gold base coat, then top with the khaki top coat, which dries to a crackle effect (a.k.a. crocodile). Now all we need is a crocodile handbag to match.

Modern Vintage Allison bootie, $295, eluxe.ca.
One of our favourite summer-t0-fall transition shoes is the bootie. You can pair with shorts in the summer, then come fall it will go perfectly with any of your autumn staples from your skinny jeans to a maxi dress. We know black is a no-fail shade, but we suggest trying navy as your new colour staple this fall.

The Rogers Cup Men’s Tournament in Toronto at the Rexall Centre, York University
