Lust List: Post Ranch Inn Big Sur

A Pacific Suite at the Post Ranch Inn.

We’ve been fortunate to have experienced some fantastic hotels in our travelling career — from The Yeatman Hotel in Portugal to the Viceroy Anguilla — and we’ll fully admit we’ve been totally spoiled. We’re pretty sure we could travel non-stop for the next decade and still not experience every hotel that must be seen (although we’re going to try).

In our Hotel We Love feature, we highlight a hotel we’ve been to and well, love. Since we’re not going to pretend we’ve stayed in every villa, resort and retreat around, we’ve decided to introduce a new feature called Lust List in which we showcase a hotel we’re dying to stay at. And who knows, it could become a Hotel We Love.

For our inaugural post we’ve picked the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California. During our drive down Highway 1 last fall, we passed through the scenic coastal region of Big Sur that quickly reminded us of the Canadian west coast thanks to the massive red wood trees, which flanked the curvaceous highway. As we focused on our next destination of San Diego, we had wished we had planned a proper stop at this stunning destination, recently the wedding location of Natalie Portman who exchanged vows with her partner Benjamin Millepied, near the area.

With endless ocean views, luxurious, yet cozy accommodations the Post Ranch Inn looks like the perfect balance of natural beauty and comfortable amenities — including the spa, which features scenic treatment rooms. Not a massive resort, the Post Ranch Inn offers 39 rooms and two private houses that all feature a unique design, plus a mountain or ocean view (a perfect size hotel for a honeymoon). We’re partial to the Cliff House that boasts a deck perched on the side of the cliff (maybe not great for those afraid of heights), a glass-walled bedroom and gas fireplace.

For those who would rather avoid the dramatic drop view, an Ocean House room offers the best of both worlds. You’re still secluded and have great views, but less “on the cliff” so to speak.

With spa treatment rooms like this one, we’d definitely want a treatment that would allow us to enjoy the view too!

The infinity Jade Pool.

The Post Ranch Inn has three pools, which includes two basking pools, both cliffside with one of them being the infinity Jade Pool. Kept at 104 degrees, it’s definitely warm enough for an evening dip.

In addition to all of these gorgeous features, we’re also partial to a stay at the Post Ranch Inn thanks to their eco-initiatives such as using solar energy, having a biodegradable cleaning system, and all of the lodges were built with sustainable materials that complement the surrounding landscape. Plus if you need a ride, you’ll be in a hybrid car. Green and beautiful? What’s not to love.

This incredible hotel is high on my list as well – I hope I get the chance to check it out. The resort looks stunning, not to mention those views!
