Our Favourite Trends from Resort 2012

Resort-2012Resort wear is that little burst of excitement that comes post-Fall as we anticipate our warm weather escapes. No longer just for those “cruising,” whether you’re off to Bali for a health retreat, heading to the Caribbean for some sun and sand or are jet-setting to Buenos Aires for some retail therapy, looking to the resort collections can be a great source of packing inspiration. Not sure where to start? Let these designer trends get you ready to leave winter behind!

Trend: Colour
As you would expect with resort, colour was everywhere. There was colour blocking at Peter Som, bold and bright hues at Alice + Olivia and southwest inspired shades at Tory Burch. Not to mention the neon scuba-inspired wear at Michael Kors and the rainbow brights at Christopher Kane. It’s an easy trend to incorporate into your vacation look too. If you’re colour shy, try a pop of colour on top with a pair of white pants or go bold with your accessories. Not afraid? Try a neon shade or head to toe look to really turn heads. Plus you’re on vacation — you might as well have a little bit of fun.

Trend: Prints
Between the show-stopping florals at Givenchy to the Parisienne prints at Louis Vuitton the resort prints felt playful, yet pretty. We also loved the Hawaiian-inspired prints at Stella McCartney, the folk motifs at Thakoon and the tribal motifs at Derek Lam. Prints can often be intimidating, but like the bright colour trend it’s one that you should embrace. If you want to keep the look low maintenance, opt for a printed dress that way you don’t have to worry about mixing and matching.

Trend: Hats
Visor, fedora or floppy? From the riding caps at Louis Vuitton to the top hats at Jason Wu, sunglasses weren’t the only resort accessory showing off this season. When you’re off to the beach you really can’t go wrong with a hat — more than merely stylish, you’ll also be blocking out the rays — although maybe keep the riding hat for the city.

Trend: Shorts
While it’s a kind of no-brainer resort essential, you can’t go wrong with a pair of shorts in your vacation wardrobe. Instead of opting for a basic pair, swap your denim duds for a patterned pair as seen at Mulberry, Prabal Gurung and Tory Burch. Keep your top simple — a plain white tee or tank will do just fine and you’ll be beach ready in no time.
